President Zardari meets Qatari Amir, discusses regional cooperation and investment

President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari met with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, in Doha on Wednesday to discuss ways to deepen bilateral cooperation and regional peace efforts.

According to the President’s Secretariat, the two leaders reaffirmed the historic and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Qatar, rooted in shared faith, mutual trust and a common vision for peace and prosperity in the Muslim world.

President Zardari conveyed greetings from the government and people of Pakistan, and lauded Qatar’s remarkable progress under the leadership of Sheikh Tamim.

He praised Qatar’s global role in dialogue and humanitarian diplomacy, particularly its advocacy for a ceasefire and relief for the people of Gaza.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity, the president recalled Islamabad’s consistent support for Qatar at international fora.

The Amir, welcoming the president, expressed pride in Pakistan’s achievements and appreciated the contributions of the Pakistani community to Qatar’s development.

He said Qatar was keen to see a significant increase in the number of Pakistani workers in the country in the coming years.

Both leaders discussed expanding cooperation in political, economic, defence and cultural sectors. President Zardari offered to enhance collaboration in defence and defence production, to which the Amir responded positively, directing relevant authorities to initiate talks with Pakistan.

The president also proposed joint initiatives in agriculture and food security and welcomed Qatari investment in Pakistan.

He commended the efforts of Qatari institutions such as the Qatar Fund for Development and the Education Above All Foundation for supporting education and humanitarian causes.

Zardari also appreciated Qatar’s facilitation of the UN-led Doha Process on Afghanistan, which has supported international coordination on humanitarian, development and security matters.

The Amir expressed hope that Pakistan and Afghanistan would overcome current challenges and work together for regional stability.

President Zardari invited the Amir to visit Pakistan, which Sheikh Tamim accepted, saying he would visit early next year.

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar also attended the meeting.
