The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued directives to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to submit details of authorised investigations, including recovery of public money or arrests, in the wake of court's verdict on Rental Power Projects (RPPs).
Heading a three-judge bench, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed the hearing of fortnightly progress report hearing of the RPP verdict and inquired from M. Akbar Tarar, Additional Prosecutor General NAB whether any portion of the plundered money was recovered and challans produced in the relevant court against those responsible.
Tarar told the bench that the NAB was investigating the matter in accordance with the law and would not allow Karkey to move until the apex court was satisfied. The Chief Justice asked for details of the settlement with Karkey and Tarar requested for time to submit the required information. During the course of proceedings, Raja Amir Abbas, the counsel for Colonel Shahzad Anwar Bhati (Retd), former Director General Investigation Team of NAB probing the RPP scam, told the court that his client complied with the court's orders in letter and in spirit. Raja informed the bench that in pursuance of the court orders his client completed all the inquiries and recommended immediate investigation against all those, including former Water and Power Minister and former Finance Minister, found involved in the scam.
He further apprised the bench that Bhati had also requested the NAB authorities to issue arrest warrants against some very senior government officers and public office holders. However, he had been disassociated from the investigation in the RPP scam. Later, the hearing was adjourned till November 8.
