Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday arrived in Tehran to attend the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of the President-elect of Iran Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, Radio Pakistan reported.

Dr Masoud’s oath ceremony will be held on August 5 after a formal endorsement by Iran’s supreme leader.

He had won a runoff election on July 5 against his ultraconservative opponent Saeed Jalili to replace President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash in May.

PM Shehbaz likely to visit Iran next week

The deputy prime minister was received by the Director General of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Seyed Rasoul Musavi and the Ambassador of Pakistan to Iran Muhammad Mudassir Tipu at the Tehran Airport.

Dar is leading Pakistan’s delegation in the absence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif who had to postpone his visit due to poor health.

“Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar will lead the Pakistan delegation at the inauguration/oath ceremony of the President-elect of Iran, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, to be held on 30 July 2024 in Tehran,” Pakistan’s foreign office said in a statement.

“The visit attests to the commitment by the two countries to strengthen leadership-level engagement and bilateral cooperation,” it added.
