LAHORE: The government announced in the Punjab Assembly that electric and hybrid buses would be operated in Lahore and other cities in November and December of the current year. Transport Minister Bilal Akbar claimed that 27 electric buses would be on the roads of Lahore by the end of the year. The opposition alleged that the entire provincial finance award was being spent on Lahore.

During the session traffic issues were also discussed in the House. Several lawmakers criticized the performance of the police department regarding the law and order situation, raising numerous points of order.

The Punjab Assembly session was presided over by Deputy Speaker Zahid Iqbal Channar.

During the question hour, Transport Minister Bilal Akbar informed the House that 27 electric buses would be on the roads of Lahore by November and December of the current year, and hybrid buses would also be operated in other districts.

He added that a public transport system has been introduced in major cities of Punjab, not just Lahore.

Opposition member Brigadier Mushtaq Ahmed Khan (retd) said that all cities except Lahore are deprived of transport facilities, and the entire provincial finance is being spent on Lahore.

Rana Aftab said that the government is introducing a bus policy, but there is a permanent traffic jam in all major cities.

In the House, Transport minister and Aijaz Shafi exchanged bitter words. Opposition member said that government is blaming us for every thing, whereas they are in the power for the past fourty years in the province.

The Transport minister responded that system has been in place for forty years, and it has collapsed during their three years.

In the House, opposition members Awais Wirk, Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan, and Hafiz Farhat Abbas raised numerous points of order regarding police performance, expressing their reservations about the police conduct.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman presented the annual reports of the Punjab Information Commission and the Punjab Public Service Commission in the House. After completing the agenda, Deputy Speaker Zahid Iqbal Channar adjourned the session until Friday at 2 pm.
