ISLAMABAD: A local court on Thursday confirmed bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in a case registered against him for using controversial remarks against a female judge during a rally in the capital city.

Sessions judge Basharat Mufti, while hearing the case, confirmed Khan’s bail against the surety bonds of Rs 50,000.

Imran Khan appeared before the court amid tight security arrangements. Khan’s lawyer Babar Awan and prosecutor Wajid Munir appeared before the court.

During the proceedings, Awan told the court that his client has been named in two cases and requested the court to approve his client’s bail.

Prosecutor Munir told the court that Kohsar Police Station has included Section 505 in the FIR which is a non-bailable offence. Khan gave a provocative statement, said the prosecutor.

Awan told the court that another case was also registered against Khan at the Margalla Police Station and ant-terrorism clauses were included in the FIR but it was removed after the directions of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Khan’s counsel said that his client during his statement stated that he will take legal action against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG).

After subjecting Shahbaz Gill to severe torture, Khan stated that he will register cases against these police officers, he said.

On this, the prosecutor said that Khan had threatened government officers. The court inquired where the public gathering was held. The prosecutor replied that the public gathering was held in F-9 Park. The judge remarked that then how come Section 144 was applied to this case.

He also said that the FIR does not include Section 506-2, adding that there are bailable provisions in the case. The court after hearing arguments of both parties confirmed Khan’s bail.

The FIR registered against Khan includes four sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), including 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 189 (threat of injury to public servant), and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).
