LAHORE: Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has said that the government has purged all departments including the universities of political interference, adding that there will be no compromise on merit and transparency in the universities. The meeting of the Universities’ Senate will be called at least twice a year, and reforms are being introduced in the universities as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, he added.

He stated this while addressing the 36th Senate meeting of the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor UET Prof Dr Mansoor Sarwar, Principal Secretary to Punjab Governor Dr Rashid Mansoor were also present among other members.

The meeting approved various matters and Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mansoor Sarwar apprised the governor and chancellor about the steps taken by the university with regard to coronavirus.

On this occasion, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar instructed the vice-chancellor University of Engineering and Technology Lahore to call the meeting of university’s Senate biannually as the meetings are necessary to resolve students’ issues and to avoid any inordinate delay in university’s matters. Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar also issued instructions to complete the hiring process against the vacant seats available in UET, adding that all appointments should be regular.

He further said that all vice-chancellors have been appointed on merit so it is incumbent upon the VCs to discourage the culture of nepotism and promote merit and transparency in the university. He said that strict action will be taken against any illegal activity.

While talking to the media, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that the PTI government has eliminated political interference from all institutions because political interference destroys institutions.
