Excise dept proposes withdrawal of transfer fee

LAHORE: The Punjab excise department has forwarded a summary to the provincial government for withdrawing transfer fee on the token tax of vehicles, banning open transfer, and imposition of a carbon tax to ensure 100 percent recovery of token tax. According to the sources, the department has revised its earlier proposal of charging Rs 1.5 per liter carbon tax to ensure recovery. The department has argued in the summary that carbon tax would enable the government to collect Rs12 billion per annum that would enough to meet the shortage in the collection of token tax.
