KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 127,817 tonnes of cargo comprising 98,941 tonnes of import cargo and 28,876 tonnes of export cargo including 5,882 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday.

The total import cargos of 98,941 tonnes comprised of 55,807 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,690 tonnes of bulk cargo; 4,394 tonnes of wheat and 37,050 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 28,876 tonnes comprised of 12,819 tonnes of containerised cargo; 622 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 10,626 tonnes of clinkers and 4,809 tonnes of cement.

As many as 5,882 containers comprising of 3,392 containers import and 2,490 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. The breakup of imported containers shows 1,314 of 20's and 1,021 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 18 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 274 of 20's and 131 of 40's loaded containers while 540 of 20's and 687 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were two ships namely OEL Kedarnath and Beaufort carrying containers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels viz. MSC Candice, X-Press Guernsey, Gulf Trader and Eemslift Dafne carrying containers, wheat and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

There is one ship namely MT Lahore carrying oil tanker expected to sail on Friday. There are four vessels viz. MSC Northern Dexterity, Kota Naked, Indigo Garland and Qing Ping Shan carrying containers, wheat and clinker respectively due to arrive on Friday while two vessels viz. Bomar Milione and Plover Pacific carrying containers and mogas respectively are expected due to arrive on Saturday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 193,964 tonnes comprising 155,717 tonnes of import cargo and 38,247 tonnes of export cargo including 3,935 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 155,717 tonnes includes 40,484 tonnes of coal; 1,000 tonnes of LPG; 50,000 tonnes of furnace oil; 9,541 tonnes of wheat; 10,633 tonnes of chemical; 3,893 tonnes of palm kernel and 40,166 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 38,247 tonnes includes 3,648 tonnes of talcum powder and 34,599 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,935 containers comprising of 2,114 containers import and 1,821 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

There were three ships namely Josphine Maersk, Bright Imabari and MT Karachi carrying containers, coal and oil tanker respectively expected to sail on Friday afternoon. A total number of nine ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, talcum powder, coal, chemical, wheat, LPG, furnace oil and palm kernel respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as twenty vessels viz. Xin Hong Kong, Express Maersk, Josphine Maersk, Boaufort, CL Belle, Jal Kamal, Kiran Caribbean, Star Hercules, Julius Oldendroff, Sweet Melissa, Shao Shan-6, Luminous Nova, Oriental Freesia, Gas Athena, Gas Zeus, Gulf Pearl, Norstar Invictus, Leader, Antigoni and Navis8 Adamile carrying containers, steel product, cement, coal, chemical, soyabean, wheat, LPG, mogas, condensate, palm kernel and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were five ships viz. Jappesen Maersk, Kiran Caribbean, Sweet Melissa, Gulf Pearl and Navis8 Adamile carrying containers, coal, soyabean, condensate and palm oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, Grains and Fertilizer Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Friday.

There was one ships namely Kharaitiyal carrying LNG due to arrive on Friday while another ship namely Diyala carrying containers is due to arrive on Saturday.
