KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 122,422 tonnes of cargo comprising 78,950 tonnes of import cargo and 43,472 tonnes of export cargo including 5,173 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday.

The total import cargos of 78,950 tonnes comprised of 51,480 tonnes of containerised cargo; 16,470 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 11,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 43,472 tonnes comprised of 18,612 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,840 tonnes of general cargo; 22,020 tonnes of bulk cargo and nil tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 5,173 containers comprising of 3,465 containers of import and 1,708 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,195 of 20's and 1,012 of 40's loaded while 66 of 20's and 90 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 354 of 20's and 271 of 40's loaded containers while 146 of 20's and 333 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were three ships namely CMA CGM Ivanhoe, Carl Schulte and Jawad carrying containers and clinkers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There was four vessel carrying containers and oil tanker respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 172,715 tonnes comprising of 121,212 tonnes of import cargo and 51,503 tonnes of export cargo including 2,978 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 121,212 tonnes includes 52,723 tonnes of coal; 46,189 tonnes of gas oil; 4,000 tonnes of palm oil; 5,000 tonnes of soyabean and 13,300 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 51,503 tonnes includes 8,221 tonnes of cement and 43,282 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 2,978 containers comprising of 700 containers import and 2,278 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

There was one ship namely MOL Courage carrying containers sail out to sea on Friday morning, while four more ships namely Lisa, Mytro, Al-Soor-II and Bernora carrying containers, soyabean, diesel oil and palm oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of eight ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, soyabean, cement, gas oil and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as fifteen vessels viz. Express Rome, CMA CGM Ivanhoe, Jeppenses Maersk, Dona Bibi, Drya Tion, Skua, Kamila Kosan, White Purl, Milaha Qatar, Hanfia Arctic, Emerald Shiner, Shalamar, Torm Astrid, Chemroad Lily and Silver London carrying containers, soyabean, coal, chemical, gasoline, gas oil, crude oil, diesel oil and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were seven ships viz. CMA CGM Ivanhoe, Skura, Dona Bibi, White Purl, Emerald Shiner, Milaha Qatar and Chemroad Lily carrying containers, coal, soyabean, LPG, LNG, gas oil and palm oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, Grain & Fertilizer Terminal, SSGC LPG Terminal, Engro Elengy Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Friday.

There are two ships namely Manet and Jeppenses Maersk carrying containers due to arrive on Saturday.
