Sindh Cabinet on Monday called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Chief Minister House. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and other Ministers gave briefing to the President on the projects of their respective departments. Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan was also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the President asked the ministers to further improve the performance of their departments, serve the people at their doorstep and resolve their problems. During a briefing on Jail Reforms, the President issued directives to fully implement these reforms in prisons and provide more facilities to the prisoners.
He also issued directives to provide free of cost "solar cookers" to the recipients of houses under Behan Benazir Basti scheme. Earlier, in his briefing Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah apprised the President about the progress on various on-going development projects in the province.
He said that 53,500 jobs have been created in the province and these have been provided to jobless youth after completing due process. Similarly, 51,000 youth were extended training in various skills under Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Programme. Shah said that landless haris (peasants), specially women have been provided 25 acres of land, of which 4 acres have been cultivated for them. They have been also been provided free of cost seeds, pesticides, fertiliser and money to cultivate the land.
The President was briefed that free-of-cost houses are being provided to deserving people in various districts of Sindh under Behan Benazir Basti scheme. Irrigation Minister Murad Ali Shah, Education Minister Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq, and Minister for Jails Haji Muzaffar Ali Shujra and Agriculture Minister Syed Ali Nawaz Shah also briefed the President about their departments.
Minister for Communication and Works Manzoor Wasan told the President that 2,060 kilometres of road have been constructed in the province during 2008-09 while 5,000 kilometres of farm-to-market roads will be completed by June 2010. Chief Minister Sindh informed the President that the province has harvested a good crop of wheat, cotton and sugarcane despite shortage of irrigation water.
