Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that reconstruction of damaged and destroyed buildings of December 28, 2009 Ashura incident is a part of relief package. Speaking at relief pay order distributing ceremony among affected shopkeepers of December 28 incident at Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday.
He assured that government will provide all possible assistance to rehabilitate affected businessmen of the incident and reconstruction of the building in shortest possible time. The chief minister recalled that 43 personas lost their lives in the incident and their families were provided relief cheques.
The task of the reconstruction of 19 building of Boultan Market and other adjacent markets has been assigned to M A Jinnah Affected Market Relief Committee, led by Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on investment Zubair Motiwala. He further said that after the incident total government machinery came into action to rehabilitate affected businessmen and general public in shortest possible time.
He said that this time the government adopted a different way and involved private sector to help rehabilitate affectees. He said that this time the affected businessmen have started getting relief pay orders in just one month and around Rs 1.38 billion have been distributed to the affectees. Despite financial constraints this time government did not hesitate to provide full amount as it was demanded by Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) leaders.
Qaim said that the present coalition government is elected representative of people and they understand their problems and difficulties. "We have not used any backdoor to grab power," he added Sindh Minister for Industries and Commerce, Rauf Siddiqui termed the incident of December 28 as an attack on economic hub of the country to damage Pakistan's image abroad.
He said that the people have shown an exemplary response and all segments of the society joined hand to help affected businessmen and general public. It is an indication that we are an alive nation and can face any challenge with courage and dedication.
He further said that it was the commitment of President Asif Ali Zardari and Quaid-e-Tehreek Altaf Hussain to rehabilitate affected businessmen in shortest possible time. Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on investment, Zubair Motiwala said that the process of reconstruction of destroyed building have been imitated and urged the chief minister to help removing hurdles coming in the way of reconstruction.
He urged the chief minister to allow use of left over amount of allocated relief fund to be utilised for improving security, providing armored vehicles to police, installing CCTV cameras on roads, and upgrading fire brigade. Leader of Businessmen Group (BMG), Siraj Kasim Teli said that the relief committee has got Rs 2.5 billion out of total commitment of Rs 3. 5 billion by federal and provincial governments. Hoped that the reaming fund will be received soon.
He paid rich tribute to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah for their full support to relief and rehabilitate the affected businessmen. President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Abdul Majid Haji Mohammad said that the relief committee has distribute around 1,451 pay orders among affected businessmen of around Rs 1.38 billion.
