Chairman, Schedule Castes Rights Movement, Ramesh Jai Pal here Thursday called for increasing the seats of scheduled caste Hindus in National Assembly and Senate through 18th amendment in the Constitution.
Addressing a press conference at National Press Club, the Chairman and Co-ordinators, Guru Sikh Devji, Amarnath Randhava, Ratan Laal, Shakuntla Devi and Om Prakash stressed upon the need for revising the reserved seats for scheduled castes Hindus in the parliament on the basis of their population. They were of the view that scheduled caste Hindus have no seat in Punjab due to the division of seats across the country, which is adding more problems for the minorities.
The on record population of Scheduled Castes is around 4 million for which representation in the National and Provincial assemblies was not adequate. They also demanded reserved seats for minorities' women and also special quota for various government funds at national and provincial level for providing financial assistance to the needy persons of minorities' community.
