Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, while making the provincial bureaucracy accountable for its behavior towards the government-backed programs, asked the officers to spend the development funds on time.
"We often receive complaints against the officers... some of the MPAs often complain about the developmental projects," he said while chairing a meeting of provincial bureaucrats including the chief secretary, the departmental secretaries and the heads of autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions at Chief Minister House on Thursday.
The chief minister said President Zardari, who would soon be reviewing the developmental works in the province, had issued directives that the bureaucracy should complete the public welfare programs at the earliest.
Expressing satisfaction over their last year's performance, Qaim asked the officers to set up health boards in every district hospital, reconstitute district education committees and district health committees in the education and health departments of all the districts, respectively.
He said the Punjab-like increase in the Non-Practicing Allowance and the provision of other facilities to the doctors working in rural areas would be duly discussed. Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman assured the chief minister that the provincial management would employ all out efforts to implement the public welfare programs in letter and spirit.
On the occasion, the secretaries of different departments briefed the meetings about the performance of their departments. Secretary Food Department Naveed Kamran Balcoh said the federal government had set 1.5 million tons wheat procurement target for Sindh, which had targeted to produce 2.3 million tons of wheat this season.
He said for the new season the department was establishing 330 wheat procurement centers across the province. Senior Member Sindh Board of Revenue Ghulam Ali Pasha told the meeting that recently 58 Goths of Karachi were regularised and the same would soon be replicated in various Talukas of Hyderabad district.
Secretary Home Department Arif Khan said no political case was lodged by the present government during last two years during which the number of prisoners in jails had reduced to 13,500 from 22,000. Another such meeting would soon be held to review performance of the other departments.
