The Lahore High Court on Thursday adjourned hearing of a petition filed by cricketer Shoaib Akhtar, challenging the ban on playing cricket for one and half years and a fine of Rs 7 million. The court during the hearing observed that a player did not deserve to be the part of the national team who did not follow discipline.
On July 24, the petitioner counsel, Abid Hussain Minto had submitted that appellate tribunal was not authorised to award penalty because it was not provided under the relevant law. He prayed the court to declare the tribunal decision as illegal.
Earlier, as an interim relief, the then Chief Justice on July 3, 2008 had allowed Shoaib Akhtar to participate in national or international cricket by suspending one and half years ban on playing cricket. Earlier, Taffazul H Rizvi, counsel for PCB said that every player was bound to obey the laws of International Cricket Council (ICC) being its bonafide member.
