Hosts Angola kick off the African Nations Cup finals against Mali on Sunday but the build-up to the opening game has been overshadowed by the gun attack on the Togo team bus. The match takes place at the November 11th stadium in Luanda, opened just weeks ago as one of four new arenas constructed for the three-week tournament.
However, Angola's estimated $1-billion investment in seeking to display an image of economic and social progress after decades of civil strife lies in tatters after three people were killed in Friday's attack in the oil-rich enclave of Cabinda.
The Confederation of African Football added that games scheduled in Cabinda would also go ahead. The opening Group B matches are scheduled there on Monday. Angola coach Manuel Jose said attitude would be keen to home success in the first Group A game.
