The American technological giant Uber is facing a federal criminal probe in the US over alleged bribery violations and is reviewing Asia operations after suspicious activities reported in five countries in the region.

According to Bloomberg, Uber has already notified the officials in US about payments made by staff in Indonesia. However, people familiar with the matter said the Justice Department looks into a possible criminal case.

The company was working with law firm O’Melveny & Myers LLP to examine records of foreign payments and interview employees, the site quoted its sources.

Attorneys are focused on suspicious activity in at least five Asian countries: China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Korea.

It is worth to mention here that, last year, Uber had a run-in with Indonesia police over the location of an office in Jakarta providing support to local drivers.
