Futuristic car can sense your biology

Where Tesla, Toyota and more companies are working on autonomous cars that interact with the environment, another man is working on cars that can actually interact with their drivers.

Ari Teman an inventor, designer and a technologist believes that biometrics will be one of the greatest advancement in transportation in upcoming years. Teman explains biometric to be “the ability for a vehicle, an environment, or a service to recognize who you are and how you are”.

Though the use of biometrics has become common like the fingerprint sensors or the voice recognition, the use of biometrics in automotive area is still uncommon. Yet, it is expected that the technology will slowly progress in future and as per a report provided by Frost & Sullivan’s Intelligent Mobility Team, a third of cars will include biometric sensors in them by 2025.

Working with Duetsche Telekom’s datacom division, Teman forecasts that the car would be able to perform greater tasks than just transporting passengers. Teman exclaims, “Your vehicle will recognize you as you approach. There’s no driver who’s going to look out the window and go, ‘Oh, it’s Neil.’ It’s going to be a camera, and it’s going to say, ‘I have to pull up to Neil, who’s standing on the sidewalk, and not Joe, who’s standing 10 feet away from him.’”

Just as the rider steps in the vehicle, the sensors will start working. The vehicle can adjust everything automatically in the car from how it operates to the route it chooses based on this data to best suit the passenger. “Once you’re in the car, we’re reading your vitals, and we’re reading your neurological signs,” reports Futurism.

Teman explains, “The car may notice that every time it makes a turn, your heart rate rises.” The vehicle can read this information as an indication that the rider is nervous and that it should make an adjustment. “The car will think ‘Maybe I should slow down’ or ‘Maybe there’s something in this neighborhood that is bothering this passenger,’ and it will consider taking a detour or different route next time.”

Moreover, the futuristic biometric car would also be able to slightly alter the environment based on the biological information it gathers. “If the car sees you’re tired, it can dim the lights. If it sees you’re shivering, it can turn up the heat.”
