The Executive Board of the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) in its annual meeting held in New York, United States last week unanimously approved a grant of $28.683 million for year 2009-2010 for health sector in Pakistan. The $28.683 million grant is likely to be increased to $86.700 million for 2009-2010.
Secretary Health Khushnood Akhtar Lashari represented Pakistan in the executive board meeting. He presented Pakistan's Country Programme to the Executive Board. Highlighting the priorities of the new government in the health sector, Lashari explained the major areas of the Country Programme, which include children's health, education, protection etc. Switzerland, Canada, and Norway spoke in favour of the proposed programme.
