Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has called upon the investors to set up more and more industries in Sindh and cooperate with Sindh government towards industrial development.
Talking to a delegation of Small-Medium Industrial Leasing Estates at Chief Minister House here on Saturday, he pointed out that there is lot of room for investment in agro-based industry. The chief minister informed that a big grain mandi like vegetable market will be set up in Karachi which will have warehouses for storing all kinds of grains.
He stated that a plan is underway for setting up Sindh Industrial Estates in Karachi and interior of Sindh while Small-Medium Industrial Leasing Estates will be allotted 500 acres of land to make investors set up their small industries there.
He made it clear that no land allotted for industrial purposes could now be sold by any allottee. If no industry will be established in two years, the land allotted will be cancelled.
He informed the delegation that Sindh has a bumper wheat crop this year and reactivated Sindh Seed Corporation is playing an active role in the field of agriculture. He said that increased funds would be allocated next year for crop development and research.
He told the visitors that rice cultivation had started from Sindh and rice beads were recovered from 5,000-year old Moenjo Daro civilisation which shows that rice is being cultivated here for over 5,000 years. At present, he said, Basmati rice is being cultivated and it is very popular in Saudi Arabia and South Africa. Dr Arbab directed the secretary agriculture to approach the federal government for registration of Basmati variety of Sindh rice.
