An assembly of certain businessmen, scientists, engineers and lawyers have revealed plans for the world?s first space nation in what could be deemed an ambitious ? unrealistic to some? ? feat amidst all other Mars colonization rhetoric.

The to-be formed space-nation is given the name of ?Asgardia?, taken after a mythical city in Norse mythology said to be the dominion of King Odin. Asgardia will also be inclusive of one satellite, which according to reports will be launched into orbit as soon as next year.

Russian scientist and business tycoon Igor Ashurbeyli, who believes Asgardia to be a part of the UN one day, is spearheading the project; their website also bolsters claim of offering an independent platform unlike and not constraint by land-based country laws.

The team behind the big idea of a space-nation also reiterates on the fact that they want to rather ensure the human race has an independent ?country? which values scientific advancement over political or commercial aspirations.

However, it is not just limited to a concept of human space habitats, those at the back end of project Asgardia, also show a certain affinity towards defending Earth with a state of the art protective shield - as they put it - against cosmic or natural threats.

Mr Ashurbeyli was also quoted saying that initially the citizens would physically be residing on Earth across different parts of the world and while being a citizen of their own country they shall be citizens of Asgardia as well. According to reports as of now approximately 1400 people have signed up for Asgardia and once that figure reaches 100,000 they will be eligible for applying to join the UN.
