District and Sessions Judge Faisalabad, Abdul Waheed Khan would start the formal inquiry on Monday September 5 to investigate the rape allegations made by Sonia Naz against Faisalabad police officials.
According to the terms and references of the tribunal issued by Punjab Home Secretary Hasan Waseem Afzal, Faisalabad DSJ Abdul Waheed Khan would examine the case and determine the facts as a one-man tribunal under the West Pakistan Tribunals of Enquiries Ordinance 1969 (II).
The terms and references of the tribunal say that it will determine the circumstances which led to this incident and the facts; it will ascertain the real cause of the incident; it will determine the veracity of the alleged atrocities committed against Ms Naz and her family members; it will determine the facts and circumstances of the alleged rape of Ms Naz; it will determine the whereabouts of Ms Naz's husband, who has been allegedly missing from the custody of Faisalabad police for over a year; it will fix responsibility for this occurrence; and give any other recommendation that it deems appropriate.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Zafar Ahmed Qureshi, head of the inquiry committee formed by the Punjab IGP, and SSP Saad Akhtar Bharwana continued their inquiry in Faislabad and Lahore on Sunday and examined the statement of DPO Faisalabad. It was expected that the investigation committee would be submitted an interim report of this incident within a day.
