Food, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Sikandar Hayat Bosan on Sunday said up to 150,000 tonnes wheat would be imported during September-October to meet the country's requirement.
Under the directives of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, he said import duty on wheat had been abolished to facilitate the people.
It was a timely decision that had won applaud by various circles, he said in a statement issued here.
Bosan said being cognisant of the people's needs the prime minister had made arrangements ahead of upcoming Ramazan to protect masses from profiteers and hoarders.
He said that by the grace of Allah Almighty the country's economy was stable with abundant availability of commodities in the market.
Besides, the prime minister in a message to all the ministers had asked them to keep an eye on the prices and ensure that the people do not feel inconvenient during Ramazan, Bosan said.
