National Assembly (NA) Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain on Sunday said the PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain with the consensus of the senior party members would announce the names of the candidates for district and Tehsil Nazims of Sialkot district within two or three days.
Talking to APP here, he said Chaudhry Shujaat and other PML members were considering the names of candidates for the elections of Sialkot district and Tehsil Nazims.
To a question, the NA Speaker said the elections of district and Tehsil Nazims would be held on party basis in the country.
To another question, he said the first phase of local government polls were held in fair and free atmosphere in which voters had showed their keen interest and endorsed the policies of President Pervez Musharraf.
Chaudhry Amir Hussain strongly dispelling the propaganda of rigging and pressure levelled by opposition parties, termed totally baseless and said that local government elections were held transparently and voters were free to express their opinions without any pressure on polls.
The voters had expressed their confidence in Pakistan Muslim League as a result of which the candidates of PML had won the elections of various seats with majority, he said.
Unfortunately, the levelling of allegations of rigging and influence in elections had become a tradition of political parties of the country because losing parties had always blamed the government just to placate their supporters, he added.
The NA Speaker said the government believes in democracy and had always welcomed the healthy criticism and working for the promotion of democracy at the gross-roots level in the country.
He urged the opposition parties that they should work for the betterment of the masses and strengthen the democratic institutions in the country.
Chaudhry Amir Hussain on this occasion congratulated the newly elected candidates of PML in local bodies polls in Sialkot district.
