The Capital City Traffic Police Karachi issued 58,156 challan/tickets during last seven months--from January to July, 2005. This was stated in a report sent to Provincial Police Officer Asad Jahangir by the Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Police Karachi.
The report relates police performance in different campaigns for implementation of traffic rules. The report says that 4852 challans/tickets were issued against use of coloured glasses in the vehicles, 4188 against using fancy number plates, 47,604 for travelling in ladies' compartment in buses, 1430 against underage driving, and 82 challans/tickets were issued against use of revolving lights.
According to traffic police, a number of tinted glasses in different vehicles were removed, while a number of hooters and revolving lights were seized in the same period.
Police also issued 606 challans/tickets to trucks/trailers for not using safety hooks.
