Kiln owners and social workers have strongly demanded that the responsible police officials should be arrested for murdering a 50 years old social worker, Mohammad Niaz Warraich, who was gunned down by the police in a fake encounter.
They also staged a protest demonstration against the police in Gojra. Later, addressing a press conference Chaudhry Saifullah Cheema Advocate, former Nazim of union council maintained the charges against the police and said that the Nawan Lahore police officials killed a leading social worker in a fake encounter.
He claimed that Niaz Warraich, a resident of Chak 358-JB (Wahla), was at his brick kiln when a police party of the Nawan Lahore raided the place and shot him without any resistance. He demanded an inquiry into the fake encounter and immediate suspension of the concerned policemen.
Meanwhile, DPO Toba Tek Singh office spokesman denied the allegation and said in the wake of the upcoming local-government polls some local politicians were casting a slur on the police to win sympathies of relatives of Niaz Warraich who was killed in a shootout. He said seven cases were registered with various police stations in Toba Tek Singh against the deceased.
A police constable was seriously wounded by the firing of Niaz and his accomplices in the encounter. The official was still under treatment at the Gojra Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.
