Amnesty International (AI), a London-based human rights watchdog, has urged Britain to ensure protection of human rights while introducing new anti -terror measures to prevent repeat of the callous attacks of 7/7 in the capital.
Reacting to British Prime Minister Tony Blair's announcement on Friday to bring in a raft of new anti-terrorism steps, the Al said the UK authorities need to ensure that human rights were central to any new legislation or measures that may be brought in as suggested by Blair.
During his press conference at 10-Downing on Friday Blair said the Government was prepared to amend human rights laws to deport people who were a threat to Britain's security.
"It is right and proper that the UK Government takes action to prevent further brutal and callous attacks such as those that took place in London on 7 July 2005. But security measures have to be based on human rights if they are to be effective, and we will be looking very carefully at the government's proposals.
