The average price of Bangladesh teas rose 2.22 percent to 76.41 taka ($1.18) per kg on higher demand at the weekly auction on Tuesday. "Nearly 1.5 million kg were sold at average price of 76.41 taka per kg, up 1.66 taka from the last sale.
The withdrawal percentage was 6.50," said Rafay Nizam, a director of the National Brokers Limited, the country's largest tea broker.
Buyers from the Commonwealth of Independent States, Pakistan and Bangladesh participated in the auction.
"There was a very strong demand for well-made good liquoring teas from all section of the market, as a result the average price moved up," a market report of NBL said.
Different grades sold at between 62 and 110 taka per kg.
The next weekly auction will be held on August 2, with an expected offering of nearly 1.40 million kg.
