British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Tuesday welcomed Pakistan's action against "extremist schools" and said Britain and Pakistan were working together to counter terrorism. "Of course Britain and Pakistan work on these issues together and I welcome moves that Pakistan has taken against extremist schools. Again that is something we have to deal with it," he said in response to a question at a news conference at the 10-Downing here on Tuesday.
Blair said: "If over a prolonged period of time and this goes back many years, young people are having extremism inculcated into them, taught in them and with, you know, teaching about Islam that is fanatical and extreme then I don't think we can be surprised that some of them can stand up, becoming extremists, prepared to kill people."
Answering another question why efforts to catch Osama bin Laden and Al-Zawahari had not been successful, Blair said: "We do whatever we can but you know it is difficult in the border areas of Pakistan to be absolutely sure that we try and take whatever action we can all the time to hunt them down. But I think again, you have got to be realistic about this, this is deeper than the few individuals."
