An accountability court on Saturday rejected the prayer of two co-accused of former Chief Minister Punjab Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, not to disqualify them, as the reference against them was filed under Ehtesab Ordinance instead of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Ordinance.
The co-accused S M Bashir and Usman Haider had reached an agreement with the NAB through bargaining plea and paid the amount owed by them. They contended that since they had paid the amount owed by them, hence they could not be disqualified from becoming member of the parliament.
The court, however, rejected their plea and adjourned the proceedings till August 06 for further hearing. The accused have been facing charges of misuse of Baitul Mal funds.
Moreover, another accountability court put off till July 30, the proceedings in a reference against MNA and acting president PML-N Javed Hashmi.
The counsel of the accused contended before the court that out of four properties mentioned in the reference, only one was in the name of the brother of the accused.
The court had called the brother of the accused Nasir Shah to explain his position about the properties mentioned in the reference.
The accused Javed Hashmi has been facing the charges of corruption and acquiring illegal assets in excess of his visible means of income.
