Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Pakistan Chamber of Commerce (PCC) USA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to increase interaction, communication and co-ordination for the promotion of trade between the two countries, said a press release issued here on Saturday.
KCCI President Khalid Firoz and the PCC General Secretary M Saeed Sheikh signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations and governments at the Chamber's office on Saturday, the release added.
Welcoming the three-member PCC delegation, KCCI President Khalid Firoz said the MoU was intended to acknowledge the importance of mutual co-operation and beneficial relations between the two organisations. He pointed out that lack of proper information regarding US markets has been one of the major problems for Pakistani businessmen. He asked the PCC General Secretary to identify only those items that could be exported to USA.
He endorsed the PCC for playing its vital role for the benefit of the Pakistani community living in USA and said the organisation should also focus on finding out ways and means to introduce Pakistani products in USA.
Speaking on the occasion, PCC General Secretary Saeed Sheikh said, "PCC is planning to organise a single country exhibition to showcase Pakistani products in America."
He further said in that regard he would also hold meetings with the other trade bodies, chambers and Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and would invite them to take part in the PCC Trade Exhibition.
The MoU says: "Pakistan Chamber of Commerce (PCC) USA and Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) Pakistan would endeavour to undertake studies to determine the support that benefit the respective members under this understanding and which would develop into specific programmes."
The two sides agreed to exchange professional experience relating to services rendered to the respective members facilitating their relationships and providing adequate support for the successful outcome of specific programmes.
The two sides also agreed to exchange information about products and industrial processes, which might be available in both the countries.
The MoU further said both the organisations agreed to co-operate in activities for industrial and technological advancement.
PCC and KCCI further agreed to exchange information on all economic and commercial matters with regards to USA and Pakistan, and on specific industrial sectors of both countries, and on those requested by either of the signing parties.
KCCI and PCC agreed to support activities such as seminars, courses and conferences by Pakistan and USA specialists in USA and in Pakistan in those industrial sectors agreed upon between PCC and KCCI as well as to promote those events through publicity media.
KCCI and PCC agreed to provide full co-operation to each other in the promotion of Trade Fairs and Exhibitions both in USA and in Pakistan, the MoU concluded.
KCCI Senior Vice President Mian Abrar Ahmed also spoke on the occasion. While M lqbal Mangrani, lftikhar Ahmed Sheikh, Javid Ahmed Vohra, A Abdullah Zaki, M Naqi Ban, Imran Saeed Baghpatee, Yousuf Sunirawala, Mohammad Idrees, lnayat Hussain Naqvi, members of the Managing Committee KCCI; M Nazir All Secretary-cum-Economist KCCI and M Ishaq Subhani Director Research KCCI were also present in the ceremony.-PR
