Sindh Minister for Industries, Adil Siddiqui has praised the services of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), saying it has played an important role in bringing back lost glory of Karachi. Taking to newsmen at conclusion of three-day exhibition "My Karachi-Oasis of Harmony" organised by the KCCI here at Expo Center on Sunday night, he said that holding of this exhibition would play a big roll in improving image of Pakistan as well as of Karachi abroad.
The minister said that such exhibitions not only improve image but also play a role in attracting foreign and local investors. Adil Siddiqui termed the exhibition successful and said that the participation of China, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka has increased attraction in the exhibition.
He said that the provincial government has removed hurdles in establishing new industrial units in Sindh and advised investors to come forward and utilise opportunities and establish industrial units in the province.
The minister also advised business community to send more and more delegations abroad to explore new markets for Pakistan products.
This year, besides Pakistan a very large number of companies from China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Indonesia also participated in the exhibition and placed goods in display and for sale.
Hall No-3 was completely booked by Chinese companies. They had put on display-cum-sale goods, including motorcycles, dry fruits, printing machines, cloth, garments, bicycles, etc.
Sri Lanka Bangladesh and Indonesia booked around 20 stalls. Sri Lanka displayed tea and offered free drink to visitors. Likewise, Bangladesh displayed Sarees, readymade garments etc.
Last year around 100 local companies took part in the exhibition but this year there were only 60 companies from Pakistan. They displayed TVs, garments, cloth, crockery, food products, wireless-phone etc.
People in large numbers including significant quantity of women, children visited the exhibition to see the variety and quality of goods being produced in Pakistan as well as in some foreign countries but they were disappointed by the quality and variety of local goods.
When this correspondent asked some of the visitors they expressed their dissatisfaction over the goods placed in display and for sale. They were of the view that very average quality goods were placed on display at Pakistani stalls. Some of them said that the items were no more different then those placed on sale at Sunday Bazaars.
The visitors said that some of the foreign companies' stalls were very attractive and some interesting products were on display including a motor-rickshaw, computerised printing machines, Silk cloth at Chinese stall. Bangladeshi Sarees also attracted large number of women.
At the end of the event, the KCCI arranged a display of fireworks. However, this show was mismanaged due to early closure of entrance gates of Expo Center and many people including members of KCCI who had passes with them failed to enter the premises.
Meanwhile, Chairman Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (PTPMA) Mohammed Arif Lakhani congratulated KCCI for organising the exhibition and termed it a successful exhibition.
Member KCCI managing committee Iftikhar Ahmed Shaikh termed the show as very successful. "It was an impressing exhibition and well-managed."
Former KCCI managing committee member Haroon Agar has welcomed participation of Chinese and other foreign companies in the exhibition and added that their participation will ultimately help boost two-way trade. He congratulated KCCI managing committee on holding a successful exhibition.
