The National Highway Authority (NHA) executive board on Monday approved various schemes of construction and extension of national highways and motorways for the next fiscal year. The board, met under the chairmanship of Major General Farrukh Javed at NHA headquarters, reviewed progress of ongoing projects in detail.
Senior officers from ministries of finance, communications and planning & development division also attended the meeting.
The board approved award of contracts for widening and improvement of sub-sections of Kalat-Quetta-Chaman highways, which include Kalat-Khad Koocha (60km), Khad Koocha-Quetta (54km) and to Chaman (56km). The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide funds for the project.
The PC-I for construction of 15 bridges on Karachi-Gharo-Thatta-Hyderabad highway was also approved at a cost of Rs 271.144 million.
Moreover, PC-I for improvement of Kararo-Wad section of N-25 was approved at a cost of Rs 2328.47 million. The Japanese government will provide grant for the project.
The board also gave approval of variation order regarding construction of toll plaza complex at Kalashah Kaku on Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2).
Construction of toll plazas and weigh bridges at KM 1562-1563 on N-5 at Sangjani (north bound and south bound carriage way) was also approved at a cost of Rs57,068,898.
The meeting also approved the variation order for design, construction and supervision along with extension of time regarding rehabilitation of existing bridges on Qila Saifullah-Loralai-DG Khan-Multan highway.
The board approved inclusion of the Central Insurance Company Limited and Standard Chartered Bank, Bank of Punjab, Union Bank, Allied Bank, Bolan Bank and Al Baraka Islamic Bank on NHA's panel.
The meeting acknowledged services of the former Inspector General of National Highways and Motorway Police, Major Ziaul Hassan (Retd) for the department.
