Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunications on Saturday expressed grave concern on the performance of Wireless Local Loop (WLL) service of Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL). The committee at its meeting chaired by Mohammad Tahir Shah MNA directed the PTCL management to remove all impediments from the system and ensure after sales services to WLL customers. Members of the committee pointed out that they had received numerous complaints which were brought into the notice of PTCL management, however, all of them went unheeded.
They were of the view that instead of increase in the WLL clientage, it is feared that people would switch over to mobile services.
The committee also directed PTCL to make the WLL scratch cards easily available.
Minister for IT, Owais Ahmed Khah Leghari assured the committee that proper heed will be paid their observations.
Committee also asked the ministry to specially focus on provision of WLL service in the far-flung and terrain areas of the country.
While discussing the promotion policy of PTCL, committee asked the PTCL management to ensure observance of merit and transparency in the procedures for promotion and employment. Later, Minister for IT briefed the committee about the e-governance and privatisation policy of the PTCL while the committee asked the minister to ensure job security of PTCL employees.
