Sea is the common heritage of mankind and is inextricably linked to economic prosperity of nations, said Chairman Senate Mohammadmian Soomro, while addressing the convocation ceremony of 34th staff course at Pakistan Navy War College here on Friday. Lauding the capability of naval force, Soomro said while it was fully capable to secure coastal frontiers, it would be further strengthened. Pakistan being strategically located at the mouth of Hormuz with the upcoming Gwadar Port project, Pakistan Navy is entrusted with added responsibility to ensure that the sea frontiers are safeguarded during both peace and war, he observed.
The Senate chief said Pakistan Navy had played a significant role in war on terror through participating in the operation 'Enduring Freedom', efforts, which had helped deter terrorist activity along coastline and waters.
An act of terror could plunge global stocks with devastating consequences for worldwide trade markets, he observed. He said the country's armed forces not only ensure peace and stability but they are also fully equipped to respond to natural disasters.
Pakistan Navy has been in the forefront in providing relief to tsunami effectees in the Maldives. It also helped in effective relief efforts for the flood affectees in Balochistan, he added. Soomro said that its achievements had not only made our nation proud of the Pakistan Navy, it had, also won acclaim from the international community.
