Nigerian High Commissioner, Senator Umer El-Gash Maina has urged the Pakistani entrepreneurs to make investment in Nigeria, as his country was desirous of forging closer relations with Pakistan. He was talking to LCCI SVP Sohail Lashari and VP Sheikh Mohammad Arshad here on Monday. The LCCI Executive Committee members Mian Shafqat Ali, Sheikh Mohammad Younas and Kashif Younas Mehr, besides a number of businessmen conducting business in Nigeria attended the meeting.
Umer El-Gash Maina was of the view that Nigeria was endowed with a wide range of industrial material having a lot of investment potential and Pakistani businessmen could avail the opportunities existing in his country. He said that the Nigerian government was giving generous incentives to the new businesses to encourage their smooth take-off.
Speaking on the occasion, Sohail Lashari observed that Nigeria was not a prominent trading partner of Pakistan and it was only due to lacking frequent contacts between the business communities of both the countries. Lack of knowledge about each other's potential and requirements were also hampering sustainable trade relations between the two countries.
He suggested that the Chambers of Commerce and Diplomatic Missions of both the countries could play a vital role in breaking the ice and generating better business. He was of the view that Pakistan could promote Nigerian products in Middle East, Gulf States and Central Asian Republics by providing facilities through Gwadar Seaport.
Lashari underlined the need to identify more tradable products to enhance mutual trade.
Sheikh Mohammad Arshad said frequent exchange of trade delegations, organising single country exhibitions, continuous liaison and information exchange could prove important instruments to strengthen the trade and scope for joint ventures.
