A large number of Chinese will visit Pakistan to attend a week-long Gandhara cultural festival, scheduled to take place from March 28 to April 2. The participation of the Chinese will be both on official and private levels, China National Tourism Administration, China State Administration of Religious Affairs and China Buddhist Organisation will send their representatives to attend the festival. The participants will include Buddhist scholars, intellectual, tour operators and journalists.
"It is hoped that the festival will help boost tourism linkages between the two countries," the sources said while talking to newsmen here on Thursday.
The Chinese are very much interested to visit the Buddhist sites in Pakistan. Chinese scholars in the past travelled to Pakistan through ancient silk route.
There are many Gandhara/ archaeological sites in the country, including Taxila which are likely to attract more and more Chinese tourists in future.
A Chinese scholar said Taxila is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world. For sometime, it has been the centre of Buddhism, the world famous Gandhara sculpture and the centre of learning and culture. He hoped that many Chinese will be interested to visit this site. According to the sources, a group of Chinese from Xinjiang region will also participate in the Gandhara's festival.
