Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi will inaugurate at least 10 manufacturing units at the Sunder Industrial Estate (SIE) during the third week of March. The industrial estate being set up at Sundar-Raiwind Road, 25 km south of the provincial capital, will comprise on units of textile, engineering electronics, general industry, pharmaceuticals chemicals and food sector. According to a spokesman of Punjab Industrial Estates (PIE) Development and Management Company 378 plots had been sold and allotted in phases I and II over a total area of 452 acres.
He said the allotment of plots in the second phase of SIE had also been started on first-come-first served basis observing that the industrial estate was a first of its kind mega visionary project in Pakistan, with well planned state of the art infrastructure and services based on need assessment surveys from existing industrialists.
The project was going to be the best example of private-public sector partnership and would prove a role-model for industrial estates in other parts of the country too.
He added that the entire infrastructure of the first phase including sewerage water supply, roads and electricity was scheduled to be completed by December this year.
The development of World Health Organisation (WHO) certified laboratory with the special support of Punjab Chief Minister, appears to be the main attraction for pharmaceutical units being set up at the SIE.
PIE; with its non-profit organisation status, was also executing the renovation and rehabilitation projects at Multan Industrial Estate and Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate, Kot Lakhpat Lahore.
Meanwhile, the Bank of Punjab (BoP) has rolled out a lending programme for the units at STE. "We are, entertaining all units being set up at the SIE," Managing Director, Bank of Punjab (BOP) Hamesh Khan told APP. He said the hank was contributing to a rapid growth of economy in the Punjab province by extending hassle-free services to the industrialist community.
