The target for the year's spring plantation drive in Punjab is 17.5 million plants and the work is being duly monitored to ensure implementation of this objective. This was told by Punjab Forests Minister Dr Ashfaq-ur-Rehman while addressing a meeting during his visit to Bhakkar. MPAs Hafizullah Khan and Mureed Qureshi, DCO Bashir Ahmed and senior forest department officials were also present.
He said that the campaign would succeed with private-public sector co-operation with renowned companies like Shell and Nestle also performing a positive role in this connection. Public awareness was being raised about the need of increased plantation.
According to an agreement with Bank of Punjab, the bank would provide forest guards soft loans for purchase of motorcycles, to facilitate and ensure security of state-owned trees over wider areas.
The minister added that help was also being sought from the Revenue department and patwaris were directed to submit a report on the per acre tree plantation on private lands during 'gardawari' (marking of property). Murree Forest Division had been facilitated with wireless and fire fighting equipment so that help may reach the mountainous area as soon as possible to control any contingency, he added.
