A vaccination drive for Hepatitis-B is being launched here from May 31, said Principal, Nishtar Medical College and Hospital, Professor Dr Shabbir Ahmed Nasir, on Friday.
Talking to newsmen, he said a private laboratory "Highnoon' will set up ten camps in the city for this purpose, the main one on the Nishtar Hospital premises.
Dr Shabbir Nasir said the hepatitis-B screening test will be done free of cost while the vaccination charges will be Rs 130 per head per dose. Each individual with negative result needs three doses that suffice for the whole life. Children also need to be vaccinated.
He said if the result of the test comes positive then in case of surface antigen stage the carrier needs no treatment, but if it is E-antigen, then hepatitis-B treatment becomes essential.
He said the sites for the campaign are Ghanta Ghar Chowk, Daulat Gate Chowk, Fatima Medical Centre Rashidabad, Colony Textile Mills Muzaffargarh Road, Coca Cola Factory, New Shah Shams Colony, Kutchery Chowk, Goal Bagh, Gulgasht and Gulshan Market, New Multan.
