The export of readymade garments is steadily increasing during last several years and in the year 2002-2003, the country earned US $1.1 billion against export of readymade woven garments alone.
Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA), North Zone, Zonal Chairman, Jamshaid Hanif, said this while addressing the officers posted as Commercial Counsellors/secretaries in various countries of the world by the Ministry of Commerce.
According to a press release issued here on Thursday Jamshaid maintained that the exporters are fully geared to compete in the international market and can face the challenges in Textiles products' exports against Indians and Chinese as well.
He added that SMEs are exporting basic as well as fashion garments. He stressed the need for introducing skilled upgradation and productivity enhancement with the joint efforts of both public and private sectors.
For marketing, a PRGMEA member suggested for developing a close rapport/liaison between the Commercial Counsellors and the exporters at home.
With the expansion of European Union from 15 to 25 countries the Commercial Officers could play a major rule in keeping Pakistan posted with the latest economic happenings
The delegation leader Tariq Shafi Chak, Counsel General of Pakistan designate for Hong Kong, thanked the Chairman and the Zonal Managing Committee members for the warm welcome.
He indicated that the members of the team would be available to provide immediate and prompt services to the exporting community of Pakistan.
