Federal Minister for Health Nasir Khan along with high-level delegation has left for Geneva to attend the 57th World Assembly of the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The present session of the WHO has a special significance for Pakistan as it will be unanimously elected as the President of the WHO by 192 nations of the world. Pakistan will be enjoying this honour for one year. Previously, Pakistan was elected President of Who Assembly in 1964.
Inaugural session of the Assembly will be held on Monday, May 17. Next day on Tuesday, Health Minister of Pakistan will be elected as the President of WHO Assembly unanimously by all the world members of WHO.
The election of Pakistan as the president of the World medical community is a testimony of the efforts made by the present government to improve the health standards of its people in collaboration with international community.
The 57th World Assembly has important health issues to take care of. These mainly include prevention and control of HIV/AIDS, smallpox, poliomyelitis, physical activity and diet, road safety and health, promotion of health lifestyles, reproductive health, mental health and substance abuse as well as other communicable and non-communicable diseases.
