Iran has given Qatar a sharp warning not to extract more than its share of natural gas from a giant Gulf reservoir shared between the two countries.
Iran's South Pars field, holding seven percent of the world's natural gas reserves, taps the same reservoir as Qatar's North Field.
"If production from this common field continues as is currently planned, the Qatari side will most probably produce more gas than her right share," Deputy Oil Minister Mohammad Hadi Nejad Hosseinian told a gas conference.
Reuters obtained on Monday a copy of his speech, delivered on Sunday. "We will...not allow Iran's God-given wealth to be used by others," he said.
Qatar has been far quicker to develop its gas for export than Iran where foreign investment has been slowed by a mixture of bureaucracy and political concerns.
