Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Saturday applauded the efforts made by the law enforcement agencies in improving and maintaining law and order in the province.
He was presiding over a meeting held in the Governor House to review the law and order situation and for making it more effective.
The governor said that improvement in the law and order had not only been appreciated within the country but had gathered compliments from abroad.
He said that despite improvement in the overall law and order situation, there was still need for concentrating on the imposing strict vigilance on notorious elements who are committing dacoities, robberies and other heinous crimes.
He asked the law enforcement personnel to survey cases of theft, dacoity and robbery and other related crimes at district, town and ward levels and come up with proposals to effectively check these crimes in the rural as well as in the urban areas of the province.
He said that people are misusing their licensed weapons and this tendency should be checked.
To improve the overall situation, he said, there should be community participation in the efforts of the law enforcement agencies. There should be a better system of patrolling and effective use of intelligence reports at police station level.
Those who attended the meeting included Adviser on Home Affairs Aftab Ahmed Sheikh, Chief Secretary Mutawkkil Qazi, Principal Secretary Akhtar Zamin, Additional Chief Secretary Home Affairs Syed Anwar Haider, Additional Advocate General Qazi Khalid Ali, Sindh Police Chief Syed Kamal Shah, City Police Chief Asad Ashraf Malik, DIG Operation and Tariq Jamil.
