The Pakistan Day was celebrated in New York with great enthusiasm, the day heralded with a flag hoisting ceremony at the Pakistan House.
The Pakistan permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Munir Akram unfurled the Pakistan's flag to the tunes of the national anthem.
Addressing the officers and members of the Pakistan Mission to the UN and the Consulate General here, he said that the struggle and movement for the independence of Pakistan had been vindicated by the fact that Pakistanis had not only been able to achieve their identity as a nation but also achieved socio cultural and religious freedom to pursue their goals for economic prosperity and progress.
"We are indeed grateful to Allah for having blessed us with independence as a nation" he added.
Munir Akram observed that it was the responsibility of every Pakistani to work for the glory of the country.
He said that the country must be protected by accepting the challenges lacing the nation, through conventional and non-conventional strength.
The Pakistan Consul General in New York, Mohammad Haroon Shaukat read out the messages of the President General Pervez Musharraf and the Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali for the occasion.
Later, the Pakistan Mission to the UN and the Pakistan CG in New York jointly hosted a reception to celebrate the national day of Pakistan.
A large number of diplomats of the 191 UN members States, top officials of the UN system, media representatives, prominent Pakistanis and some leading Americans attended the reception.
