The drastic increase in prices of different items of steel used in manufacturing surgical instruments has adversely effected the local surgical industry, said vice-president of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Major Mansoor Ahmad (Retd).
Talking to media men in his office on Monday he said that in the wake of artificial shortage and skyrocketing prices of steel items, the surgical industry is on the verge of collapse.
" The high prices," he said, " have crippled the surgical industry of Sialkot." The industry, he said was already confronted with a tough competition due to high cost of inputs.
The SCCI VP has appealed to the government to intervene immediately for reduction in the prices of steel products to save the surgical industry from the possible disaster because of the increased prices of iron items.
He was confident that all the concerned high-ups would take appropriate measures for resolving the problem confronting the exporters and manufacturers engaged in the surgical industry.
