Sui Southern Gas Co Ltd (SSGC) has completed repair work of Sui-Shikarpur gas pipeline which was damaged by a blast, occurred on the nigh of February 13-14.
According to SSGC spokesman here on Monday, a leakage was developed in the Indus Right Bank Pipeline System connecting Sui to Shikarpur.
This line was 40 years old, and leakage's had also been developed in the past due to corrosion and the swampy conditions, the spokesman informed.
He said that such incidents occasionally resulted in a small blast. However remedial measures were promptly taken. He said the leakage/rupture was rectified by SSGC, and the line was brought back to service within a day.
However, the SSGC spokesman emphasised that there was no disruption in the supply of gas whatsoever in any part of the SSGC system and all customers continued to receive normal supply from the company.
Referring to some news items appeared recently in the press and electronic media regarding a gas pipeline blast in the SSGC's system, the spokesman said the matter was unnecessarily sensationalised.
