Punjab University vice chancellor Arshad Mahmood laid the foundation stone of two hostels, one for boys and another for girls, on the New Campus here Saturday.
The hostel for girls has been named Hazrat Rabia Basri Hall being built in front Girls Hostel-3 while that of boys Hazrat Amir Hamza Hall adjacent to Boys Hostel No-16.
Project Director Mir Pervaiz Khursheed gave a briefing on the hostels construction.
He said both the hostels would house 200 students each. Each hostel would comprise 44 dormitories, 66 cubicles, two dining halls, two assistant superintendent rooms, a common room, a visiting room, a prayer room, a kitchen, a laundry room, a tailor room, a canteen, warden and superintendent houses and servant quarters. Each hostel would cover an area of 47,000 square feet, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, VC Arshad announced that another two hostels would be constructed in next fiscal year (2004-2005).
He said a bank branch would also be established near the hostels to facilitate students in the evening time.
He said the university income had increased by 90 percent, which had enabled the PU administration to construct more hostels and provide other facilitates to students.
