Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) on Friday held a demonstration against the government decision of lifting ban on kite flying for one-month from January 20.
The demonstrators, led by MMA Lahore President Mian Maqsood were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Ellahi and District Nazim Mian Amir Mehmood.
Addressing the protestors, Maqsood said that the government is distorting the Islamic culture by allowing Hindu ritual of Basant to be celebrated in Lahore under the guise of annual spring festival.
He alleged that the chief minister and district Nazim have lifted the ban, following the federal government's policy of allowing Indian cultural invasion in the name of normalisation of relations between India and Pakistan.
"More people would die and billions of rupees would go to waste once again. This decision is totally against the national interests and the government should immediately scrap the idea of holding spring festival and celebrating Basant under the official patronage", he said.
He warned that if the government did not impose ban on kite flying the MMA workers would take to street and the responsibility of consequences would rest with the decision-makers.
