imageISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation for the week ended on April 14, for the combined income group witnessed decrease of 0.23 percent as compared to the previous week.

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 216.15 points against 216.65 points registered in the previous week, according to data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

However, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review increased by 3.62 percent.

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-08=100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

Meanwhile, the SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs 8000 also decreased by 0.36 percent as it went down from 207.63 points in the previous week to 206.89 points in the week under review.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001-12,000, Rs 12,001-18,000 and 18,001-35,000 also decreased by 0.30 percent, 0.27 percent, 0.24 percent and 0.17 percent respectively.

During the week under review average prices of 12 items registered decrease, while that of 17 items increase with the remaining 24 items' prices unchanged.

The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included tomatoes, garlic, chicken live (farm), wheat flour (bag), potatoes, gur, rice basmati (broken), fire wood, pulse moong (washed), egg hen (farm) pulse masoor (washed).

The items which recorded increase in their average prices included LPG cylinder, match box, bananas, lawn printed, pulse gram (washed), pulse mash (washed), long cloth, shirting, onions, georgette, sugar, milk fresh, vegetable ghee (pouch), red chilly powder, mutton, rice irri-6 and curd.

The prices of the commodities which remained unchanged during last week included bread plain, beef with bone, milk powder,mustard oil, cooking oil (tin) vegetable ghee (tin), salt powder, tea, cooked beef, cooked daal, tea prepared cup, cigarettes, gents sandal, gents chappal, ladies sandal, electricity charges, gas charges, kerosene oil, electric bulb, washing soap, telephone local calls, petrol, hi-speed diesel and bath soap.
