ISLAMABAD: Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Marvi Memon Thursday said that the government was privatizing 26 percent shares of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to make it a profitable entity through strategic partnership which was in the larger national interest.
Talking to a news channel, she said if the deal could not be done with a strategic partner, the airline would be a huge burden on the country's economy.
She said, it was against the policy of the government to send home any PIA employee, adding, after the assurance given by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif regarding job security, no one should have doubt over the issue.
Marvi Memon said the government was striving hard to put the country on the path of development and progress.
The government had constituted a Parliamentary committee for privatization process and all the procedure was done after consultation with the committee, she said and added that doing politics over the issue was condemnable.
She said that fiscal deficit and inflation have been reduced in the country due to prudent policies of PML-N government, adding that the government would not come under any pressure or blackmailing of PTI or PIA protesters for stopping privatization process.
